🙋♂️ Hands up if this is you! It’s certainly me at times.
So, here’s the story.
You do good work, and you grow; you’re a bootstrapper; if a job needs doing, you do it.
Hey, it works at the start. Costs are low, and you know your business inside out.
But here’s the rub. Soon, you’re doing everything, 8 am to 8 pm, filled with flat-out busyness.
And the big stuff, the things that will create your future? Well, that gets done between 4:45 and 5:00 p.m. on a Thursday!
You know there is a better way, but changing is hard: being busy has become your modus operandi!
But deep down, you know – carry on like this, you’ll break yourself and limit your firm.
Not to mention the many family dinners and kids’ events that end up being sacrificed.
OK, OK, I get it. Any top tips?
💡💡 Track what you do each day: Every minute. Measure it all – I find Toggl is a great tool to do this.
💡💡 For each task, ask:
➤ What value does doing this create?
➤ What’s the impact of not doing it?
➤ Can it be delegated?
💡💡 Get clear on your top must-win battles: These are your North Star, the things that will really move the lever; if you’re not clear on these, life is challenging and you’re limiting your progress.
I’ll be honest: doing this alone is tough; it’s hard to see the wood for the trees. This is where the right advisors come in; they can help you get clear on the big picture and hold you accountable for taking the actions to make it happen!
What do you reckon? How do you make time for the big stuff??
If you find yourself nodding along to this post, then it’s time to make a change. Business success isn’t just about being busy; it’s about being strategic. You can’t create a thriving business if you’re constantly bogged down in day-to-day tasks.
It’s time to prioritise and delegate.
By tracking your daily activities, you gain insight into where your time is going. This allows you to identify the tasks that truly matter and those that can be delegated to others. Not everything on your to-do list is created equal, and recognising this is the first step to freeing up your schedule for more significant endeavours.
Define your “must-win battles.”
What are the core objectives that will drive your business forward? These are your must-win battles. Focusing on them will lead to growth and success. If you’re not clear on these, you’re drifting without a clear destination. These battles should be your guiding stars, helping you make decisions and prioritise your actions.
Embrace the Power of Business Advisors and Mentors
But here’s the key: making these changes on your own can be challenging. It’s difficult to see the bigger picture when you’re deep in the day-to-day. This is where the right advisors come in.
Business mentors and advisors can help you gain clarity and hold you accountable for taking the actions needed to make your big goals a reality. They provide an outside perspective, invaluable insights, and guidance to help you navigate the complexities of running a business.
So, if you’re tired of endless busyness and ready to create a brighter future for your business and yourself, reach out to a mentor or advisor who can help you chart the course and stay on track. Your business, your family and your kids will thank you.
