You’re probably closer than you think to your next hit product. Your sales and customer-facing teams probably have the insights to fuel your innovation, and you almost certainly have the and know-how to deliver.
But why is it hard to connect the dots and make it happen?
1. Get clear on why customers buy today
Why did they choose you and importantly for those who don’t, why not?
2. Start with the customer and work backwards
Understand their world, what do they need to get done and what problems keep coming up again and again. Doing this well takes time, but, get it right and you have the insights to drive your next big success.
3. Involve the whole team
Your customer-facing staff are your eyes and ears on the ground and your ops team almost certainly have thought of a better way. Come together, to share ideas and pool your knowledge.
4. Spot the trends
Which trends are going to change or disrupt your business, take time to spot them early and be the one doing the disrupting
5. Focus your energies
Most firms have a long list of ideas – few of which ever get to market. Don’t be that firm, to go fast you’ll need to make choices between competing ideas. Now it’s time to validate your ideas and prove the concept – once done you’re well on your way.
